چکیده
Abstract The Kodiak Islands lie near the southern terminus of 1964 Great Alaska earthquake rupture area and within subduction zone segment. Both local trans-Pacific tsunamis were generated during this devastating megathrust event, but tsunami source region causative faults are poorly understood. We provide an updated view hazard for through modeling geophysical data analysis. Using seismic bathymetric data, we characterize a regionally extensive seafloor lineament related to shelf fault zone, with focused uplift along 50-km-long portion newly named Ugak as most likely in 1964. present evidence Holocene motion Albatross Banks suggest that did not produce relate major structural boundaries active forearc splay faults, where tectonic is collocated gravity lineations. Differences interseismic locking, seismicity rates, potential field signatures argue different stress conditions at depth presumed segment boundaries. find have clear expression linked upper-plate structure faulting. tsunamigenic higher when compared nearby suggesting short wave travel paths little warning time communities.

Fluid-rich damage zone of an ancient out-of-sequence thrust, Kodiak Islands, Alaska
[1] The Uganik Thrust is a fossil out-of-sequence thrust fault which was active over a period of 3 Ma during the early Tertiary until activity ceased with the subduction of the Kula-Farallon spreading ridge at 57 Ma. During this period the fault experienced at least 1 km of throw and developed a strongly asymmetric damage zone. The brittle damage zone in the footwall of the fault acted as a con...
متن کاملStructure of the tsunamigenic plate boundary and low-frequency earthquakes in the southern Ryukyu Trench
It has been recognized that even weakly coupled subduction zones may cause large interplate earthquakes leading to destructive tsunamis. The Ryukyu Trench is one of the best fields to study this phenomenon, since various slow earthquakes and tsunamis have occurred; yet the fault structure and seismic activity there are poorly constrained. Here we present seismological evidence from marine obser...
متن کاملShallow Water Nearshore Fish Assemblages around Steller Sea Lion Haulouts near Kodiak, Alaska
What Scientists Did Nearshore fishes around haulouts are potential prey for Steller sea lions, especially pups, as they learn to forage and supplement their milk diets during weaning. Scientists conducted spring, summer, and winter scientific diving surveys around two Steller sea lion haulouts and two control sites on Kodiak Island to determine the abundance and composition of forage fishes. Co...

Organochlorines were examined in liver and stable isotopes in muscle of fishes from the western Aleutian Islands, Alaska, in relation to islands or locations affected by military occupation. Pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus), Pacific halibut (Hippoglossus stenolepis), and rock greenling (Hexagrammos lagocephalus) were collected from nearshore waters at contemporary (decommissioned) and historic...
